Doug Knight Q&A

How did your passion for Land Rovers start?

As a young Civil engineer. Land Rovers were the vehicle of choice for carrying equipment and assistants around a large earth moving contract. No matter what the conditions they always got through.

What was the first Land Rover you owned?

First I actually owned was a 1974 Range Rover bobtail pick up. Had been bodged by several previous owners. I took 2 years to go through it and get it how I wanted.

How many Land Rovers have you owned?

Have owned 6 now. Series 2,3, 90, Range Rover and Discovery XD.

Do your Land Rovers have a name? If so, what is the name?

My Range Rover was known as Apollo 13 as everything kept going wrong. A 0-60 in a thousand pounds vehicle. My 90 does not have a name.

What is your most memorable Land Rover moment?

As an engineer we had a company Series 3 which had a hard life. I remember driving a country lane between structures with my assistant. Went round a tight corner when the passenger door flew open. Not wearing seat belts my assistant shot out and the door slammed shut. I locked up the brakes and reversed at high speed fearing the worse, to find my assistant extracting himself from a large nettle bush completely unharmed.

What is your favourite accessory on your Land Rover and why?

My favourite accessory is a decent set of MS Tyres. With them it will truly get anywhere.
